The Birthday Lottery is a One Act Play written by Richard Fouts and directed by Suzanne Allen, produced at the San Francisco theater, Z Space in 2018.
The Birthday Lottery is a day remembered by many that lived through it, but not acknowledged by those who didn’t. Many know of the Summer of Love and the Vietnam drafting, but have not learned about the day that predicted the demise of young students throughout the nation. We have failed to understand the phycological impact the Birthday Lottery held on many young men of the winter of 1969.
Being close to the 50th Anniversary of this lottery broadcast, and during this turbulent political times, it was more than appropriate and relevant to do a production of this nature. The story and emotional impact of many Vietnam veterans needs to be heard.
