The inspiration behind Crystal Mountain’s new Skier Service facility and Summit House restaurant proposed quality indoor and outdoor spaces, while still respecting the existing rich natural landscape. The Phase 1 - Skier Services building concept trades the existing ticket building for a well-designed public drop off zone and an updated “gondola plaza” to provide additional social nodes, while welcoming visitors throughout the year.
The Phase 2 - summit house would replace a deteriorating lodge structure constructed in the 1960’s. Located at an elevation of 6,873 feet, the new summit house would continue to offer unparalleled views of mt. Rainier as well as other notable peaks in the cascade range of the northwest united states. The new structure would occupy the existing building’s site and will be no higher than the existing building. It will, nevertheless, provide vastly improved physical relationships to the mt. Rainier gondola and crystal’s rainier express lift. The new Summit House will further address accessibility and life safety systems in accordance with current building codes.
